Fort Valley police have decided to remind all business owners who have video style gambling machines in their stores that cash payouts are illegal.
This move comes on the heels of a police raid of two local businesses that police found giving cash payouts.
The video gambling machines are legal as long as they only pay out store credit or store items and services.
Georgia law prohibits them from allowing cash payouts. Most stores offer prizes like free soda and food items.
Police were tipped off about the machines from family members of people who have been losing their paychecks to these machines.
After receiving a search warrant the two shops were raided by the police and $10,000 dollars in gambling money was confiscated by the police but no arrests were made.
The police are handing the case over to the district attorneys office to see if prosecution is called for.
Police will be notifying all owners of such video gambling machines that the police will be checking on these machines and anyone found in violation of the law will be fined and may receive prison time and have their business licenses revoked.
The police will be sending undercover officers into business to check the machines randomly.
