History of Las Vegas Strip Casinos

Most people around the world would quickly attribute Las Vegas with casinos, but many of them may not know that in the early Las Vegas history, gambling was banned. In 1910, the state of Nevada outlawed gambling. Naturally, if followed a rise in the illegal gambling venues in Las Vegas and its surrounding. During the Great Depression, gambling was legalized again in Nevada.

The Las Vegas history as we know it goes back to 1941, with the building of the El Rancho Vegas Hotel-Casino, which marks the beginning of the Las Vegas Strip. El Rancho casino success drew a growth in the development of casino hotels in its closet area. Some of the first Las Vegas Strip casino hotels include the Last Frontier, Thunderbird and Club Bingo. The most famous casinos in Las Vegas history is no doubt Bugsy Siegels Flamingo Hotel opened on 1946.

During the 1950s, Las Vegas enjoyed even a bigger growth in casino resorts development that included the Royal Nevada, Dunes, Hacienda, Tropicana and Stardust hotels on the Strip. In 1955, the Moulin Rouge Hotel-Casino was opened off the Strip and offered an accommodation for black guests and stages where black entertainers were allowed to perform.

In addition to being the gambling capital of the world, Las Vegas is known for its variant entertainment offerings. Even at the early Las Vegas history, visitors at El Rancho could enjoy a variety of performances including singers, comedians, strippers, instrumentalists and dancers.
